Free Willy

I came across modernmotive and was amazed by the huge tank.

Keiko should have lived here.

&

speaking of which, a pretty special portland coffee roaster owned by another Willy: Mr. Wille Yli-Yuoma received a mini shout out via apartment therapy for the visual stimulation (image below) brought to you by Portland's Dave Seoane. I couldn't be more stoked to see a favorite roaster being able to cast a wider net, along with a few awesome shops within block(s) of our old & new place.

Ohhhh Banksy.... No not Tyra!

This picture is the pinnacle of my sweating of street artists. Who knew that I would unintentionally name one of my dogs after probably one of the most current, cutting edge, street artists of my life-time. I recommend viewing this , this , this , this , or this if you don't already know.

While I was sleeping in our old 400 sq foot apartment, a legend was less than two blocks away changing the world one spray can at a time. Their name, Banksy.

When life was good.

A few weeks back, life was really good. I mean, really, really good. I felt like things were really hitting on all cylinders. Have you ever constantly walked around feeling all warm and fuzzy? Every conversation you have is deep and rich with many episodes of goose pimples? Well, let me tell you, this doesn’t happen very often...

There are two reasons this has never happened before. The World Cup is only every four years (rarely with Team USA doing anything) and the NBA Finals are not usually interesting. And the chance that the NBA Finals are interesting during a World Cup year is actually rarer than the near perfect game.

I hate the Lakers. But there are two times during the year that I put my Laker hat on. (1) Whenever the Lakers can improve the Blazers standings by crushing a team in our conference who has a better record and (2) whenever the Blazers take an early exit on the NBA season (which has been more often than not, lately). If you can’t beat’em, join’em.

I know I know, but hear me out: Blazers come first. Always. Do you know what the Blazers all time winning percentage is against the Lakers? 44%, which means we win almost as many as we lose. Nothing feels better than kicking the defending champ’s asses, which we tend to do a lot. The Blazers own the Lakers in the Rose Garden. I love being there on a Friday night, feeling good, leaving with a victory of Kobe and the Lake show.

The World Cup is awesome. And I am kind of embarrassed that I am even talking about the NBA and the World Cup together but hey, I’m here in America. The best sporting event in the world is the F.I.F.A World Cup. It means a lot to the majority of the world. It is where a country of 2 million can compete against country 303 million. I played soccer as a kid. I love watching soccer, well, at least about every 4 years.

- Lakers Vs. Celtics, Game 7, NBA Finals. That was good.
- Breakfast, soccer, and old buddies before work. That was good.
- Landon Donovan’s goal in stoppage time. That was really good.
- Being late to work every day because of a 7AM soccer game. That was good.
- “Hi Bianca” was even good. She’s hot enough.

So, a few weeks ago when Kobe was acting like a grown-up and Landon Donovan became the Best USA Men’s Soccer Player in history, life was good. And in 2014, I can’t wait for the Blazers to be in the Finals and have the USA Men’s Soccer team winning the World Cup in Brazil, all at the same time.

Well if you don't know, now you know...

Today I am going to let you in on a secret of about three years, Banh Pate Chaud from Best Baguette. Pate Chaud is a meat filled pastry. Think of the freshest crescent roll with a peppery meatball in the center.

I feel like Best Baguette (http://www.bestbaguettesandwiches.com/) is the most adequately priced sandwich shop around.

The history behind this West meets East culinary treat comes from when the French colonized Vietnam (1858–1954). During these years many French culinary techniques and ingredients were mastered by the locals and then merged with traditional local Vietnamese techniques and ingredients. A few of the foods directly introduced by the French included baguettes (French bread), pâté, coffee with cream, milk, butter, custards, and cakes.

Best Baguette has all of these foods. They make it fresh, everyday. This means you better get to one of their two locations early in the day before the sell out. If you happen to stop by and they are sold-out, just order the #6. You'll be pleased.

If you don't know, now you know.
